Recruiting: Heels "cherry pick" JUCO players

Butch Davis shrewdly recruited a handful of junior college players to help get Miami’s program back on its feet between 1995 and 2000. Current NFL players like tight end Jeremy Shockey, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie and cornerback Duane Starks were instrumental in that turnaround after joining the Hurricanes from the junior-college ranks. Davis is now considering a similar strategy as his first season at North Carolina unfolds. (Fayetteville Observer)
