East Carolina routs SMU, Matt Doherty

Matt Doherty looked a little out of place on the visitors’ bench in Minges Coliseum on Wednesday night. His identity in this region is as a player on an NCAA championship team at North Carolina in 1982 and later as a coach at his alma mater who recruited some of the talent that helped the Tar Heels win another title in 2005. Doherty’s return to the state was hardly a happy homecoming as ECU walloped Doherty’s SMU program, 82-54. (Fayetteville Observer)
