Blythe grew up the son of a UNC medical school professor who was skeptical about the raw emotion he saw at Carolina games. At one game, his father stood and declared like a blood-lusting Roman at the Coliseum: "Throw in the Christians!" But while mocking Carolina fanatics, the father, William Brevard Blythe II, did share their abiding dislike for Duke. (Raleigh News & Observer)
