Receiving scholarship was huge day for David Thornton
David Thornton had played football at the University of North Carolina for three seasons. He arrived as a bona fide football player during the offseason prior to his fourth and final season. That's when John Bunting called Thornton into his office and offered the former walk-on a scholarship. "It was clearly one of the most memorable football moments I've had,'' said Thornton, the Indianapolis Colts' starting strong-side linebacker. "It meant that even though I wasn't recruited to Carolina that, hey, I am a valuable part of the team.'' (Indianapolis Star)
