Heels' defense stifles Utes

North Carolina's defense took control in a crucial fourth quarter yesterday, forcing and recovering three fumbles in the final eight minutes in a 31-17 victory over Utah at Kenan Stadium. Led by linebackers Larry Edwards and Tommy Richardson, the Tar Heels stopped the Utes cold on four consecutive possessions with the help of the turnovers to protect a 24-17 lead in front of 50,000.
