On July 7, 1998, Walt Weiss was introduced at Coors Field as a National League starter in his first and only MLB All-Star Game appearance. As he jogged out of the dugout, Weiss’ perspective on the game and — life — shifted. The ex-Rockies shortstop and manager, then playing for the Braves, paid little mind to baseball in the weeks before the game.
