N.C. football schools in ACC slump
In 2005, four of the state's top-five football prospects went out of state. Meanwhile, college basketball's grip on Tobacco Road remains strong. "North Carolina is probably always first and foremost going to be a basketball school," said North Carolina quarterback Matt Baker, "but there's no reason football can't be up closer." Since coach Mack Brown left the Tar Heels for Texas after the 1997 season, North Carolina's ACC schools have a total of five winning conference records. (Charlotte Observer)
