One of the common themes I've come across in women's soccer, as well as women's basketball and softball, comes from coaches talking about what amounts to a sport's talent base growing in almost inverse proportion to the focus or toughness of the athletes. It's the idea that as more young athletes display better natural skills and athleticism, fewer of them want to hear about their deficiencies. (
