Economy dictates changes for college athletics

The N.C. State men's basketball team traveled by bus to Virginia Tech on Feb. 8 rather than chartering a plane, saving about $25,000. Fourth-ranked North Carolina plans to do the same thing Wednesday, whittling more than $20,000 from the travel budget. Clearly, athletic departments are not immune from the nation's economic slide.
