Michael Jordan's early days forecasted stardom

The origin of Michael Jordan’s legacy occurred in the mountains of North Carolina in the summer of 1979, nearly four months before his junior season of high school basketball. Laney was at a team camp at Appalachian State, when then-Mountaineers coach Bobby Cremins phoned recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons. “He said, ‘There is a kid from Laney that I think will be very special,’’’ Gibbons recalled.
