Under Butch Davis, speedy defenses have thrived
The fact that Carolina's reemergence is led by the defense is no surprise. That is Butch Davis' signature. Davis learned a great deal from Jimmy Johnson, and one of the staples of what Johnson believed was gathering all the speed one could amass on defense, sometimes even at the cost of size. They won national titles at Miami with it and dominated. Then they moved to the Dallas Cowboys in the late 1980s. (Tar Heel Daily)
