Highly touted tight end Alex Smith chooses UNC

Alex Smith announced his verbal commitment to North Carolina during a press conference held at his high school Tuesday. The four-star prospect is ranked among the nation's Top 10 tight ends by Scout.com. "After being through this long, delayed-out recruiting process I think the best fit for me -- and me and my mom agree -- is the University of North Carolina," Smith said. Smith, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West, selected UNC from a list of two dozen scholarship offers that included Cincinnati, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
