Wife of Va. Tech's Beamer seriously injured in fall

Virginia Tech sports information director Dave Smith said the fall occurred when Mrs. Beamer tripped over a family pet while carrying one of the couple’s grandchildren. She underwent surgery to have pins inserted in both legs but also suffered six broken ribs and a broken collarbone, Smith said. The child was not seriously injured. (Raleigh News & Observer)
