Tar Heels recruit paces West girls

North Carolina recruit Shannon Smith forced the East all-star squad to change its attack, but the East's inability to climb out of an early hole sealed its fate. The West all-stars held on for a 62-55 win Monday at the Greensboro Coliseum in the annual N.C. Coaches Association girls basketball all-star game. The East trailed by 15 in the first half but fought back to tie the score at 53 with 4:31 to play. Kelsey Harris gave the West the lead for good, however, on a three-point play, and the East squad managed just two more points the rest of the way.
