In terms of public perception, this is probably the worst UNC athletics scandal since the Tar Heels were one of 25 programs involved in a national point-shaving controversy about 50 years ago. Ultimately, one Carolina basketball player and four from N.C. State were convicted of fixing games, and both teams ended up with severe, self-imposed sanctions from the state-wide public university system in North Carolina. (ACC Sports Journal)
