Gilbert Pena loves UNC visit
Posted Nov 10, 2010
Defensive tackle Gilbert Pena (Yonkers, N.Y./ASA Junior College) is taking a less-traveled path to college football. College was not a priority for Pena when he was coming out of Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, N.Y. Instead, he went to work so he could take care of his mother. "His mother was diagnosed with cancer," ASA Junior College coach Dennis Orlando said. "He went to work for three years to support her until she was in remission. That's when he heard we were starting a football program here."
