When coaches are asked about Jimmy Messer, the first characteristic they cite is the competitive fire he displays on the mound. The 6-0 185-pound pitcher from Hudson (N.C.) South Caldwell has signed to play college baseball at North Carolina. Messer’s approach to the game could be compared closely to former Carolina closer Andrew Carignan. (Inside Carolina)
