Dillon Maples signs with Cubs
Posted Aug 16, 2011
The Cubs also signed 14th-round pick Dillon Maples, a right-handed pitcher who was North Carolina Baseball Player of the Year. Maples, represented by CAA Sports, received $2.5 million, the largest bonus ever for anyone below a second-rounder. He was available in the 14th round because most teams expected him to head to the University of North Carolina, where he had a scholarship to be a kicker.
