Coming off a 2006-07 season when UNC shared first place with Virginia during conference play and then won the ACC Tournament — and the first time Duke didn’t win one or the other since 1996 — the Tar Heels are the favorites once again. Loaded with talent from a 31-7 team that was a late-game collapse away from the Final Four, coach Roy Williams’ Tar Heels begin the 2007-08 season No. 1 in the AP’s Top 25.
