UNC Basketball Recruiting Week in Review
Posted May 7, 2012
Here's a look back at the past week in UNC Basketball recruiting.
-Roy Williams handed out three scholarship offers last week to 2014 5-star shooting guard Noah Vonleh, 2013 4-star center Kennedy Meeks and 2013 4-star forward Austin Nichols. Meeks hopes to trim his list to five soon, while Nichols has been invited to try out for the US Under-18 Junior National team. Nichols' father had some insightful comments on the recruiting process.
-Troy Williams, a 2013 5-star small forward, was set to choose between UNC and Kentucky last week but woke up unsure of his decision and postponed his announcement indefinitely. Here's some nice footage of Williams at last week's Hampton EYBL event.
-2013 power forward Marcus Lee (Antioch, CA) has seen his stock rise dramatically over the past few weeks, and there are conflicting reports on UNC's interest level. Here's Lee's junior season highlight video.
-Wayne Selden, a 2014 5-star shooting guard has been receiving increased attention from the UNC staff recently.
-Incoming freshman small forward J.P. Tokoto has added about 15 pounds of muscle and now weighs in at 195 lbs.
-Here's a closer look at incoming freshman center Joel James, who has lost nearly 50 pounds in preparation for running the floor at UNC.
-2013 small forward Nick King from Memphis, TN has listed UNC in his top-5.
-ESPN posted a great article on 2013 5-star PF, and top UNC target, Julius Randle.
-2014 5-star shooting guard Theo Pinson is ready to take some official visits...no word on where yet.
-2014 5-star center Jahlil Okafor says Duke, Ohio State, Michigan State, Arizona are pursuing him hardest right now. Here's Okafor's sophomore season highlight video.
-2015 small forward Brandon Ingram from Kinston, NC is receiving some early attention from UNC. Here's an evaluation from Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge (player #22)...and Ingram's highlight video with an interesting choice of music.
That's it for this week. Please feel free to send us your feedback or questions for next week's recap.
