Alice Schmidt Advances to 800 Semifinal

Tar Heel track and field alum Alice Schmidt advanced to the women's 800 meters semifinal at the 2012 Olympics after placing second in her qualifying round heat. Racing the two laps of the track in 2:01.65, the American contender is tied for 11th in the semifinal standings. Schmidt finished in her heat behind Russia's Mariya Savinova by a mere nine-hundredths of a second.
