At 40-3, the top-ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels have gotten off to a start that is threatening the NCAA Division I record for winning percentage, the .914 clip, set by Arizona State in 1972. The Tar Heels' season has included two streaks of at least 14 wins and a sweep of 15th-ranked Virginia Tech. Their lineup includes five players with an on-base percentage of at least .456.
