UNC Baseball Recruits Named to 2013 Under Armour All-America Game

Jack Flaherty from Burbank, CA, Cameron Varga from Loveland, OH, and Joe Gatto from Hammonton, NJ, who all have committed to play baseball for UNC, have been named to the roster for the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game that is being played on Saturday, August 24 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Jack Flaherty is a legitimate 2-way talent with an ideal frame and tools across the board. As a position player, he moves his 6’4” frame extremely well in the field with soft, sure hands and plenty of arm strength across the diamond. At the plate, he has a mature approach with good strike zone awareness and a feel for hitting. His swing is clean resulting in consistent hard contact and leverage power that will continue to improve. He has the look of a future middle-of-the-order bat. Jack also is accomplished on the mound with an upper 80s/low 90s fastball and solid secondary stuff.

Cameron Varga is a power pitcher with an outstanding three-pitch mix. His fastball regularly hits the mid 90s and gets on hitters in a hurry. He complements that pitch with a breaking ball that has big, late break and a deceptive change. His fastball and curveball both act as out-pitches for him. Cameron is an outstanding athlete who flashes top of the rotation potential.

Joe Gatto is a big, physical RHP with the look of a front-of-the-rotation starter. He has an easy, effortless delivery that produces fastballs in the 90-94 mph range. His fastball has good life with late tailing action. He mixes in a breaking ball with 11/5 shape that has tight rotation and depth, as well as a deceptive change. Overall, Joe has an intriguing mix of present stuff with even more upside.
