John Swofford assures ACC ref's integrity


The ACC has long been active in warning its athletes about the dangers of sports gambling, so a couple of years ago the league took a natural next step by asking the league's presidents to endorse a plan to run background checks on officials. While the Big Ten does a computer-based check, the ACC hired a private investigation firm to look into officials' credit history, gambling involvement and criminal and driving records.
