Former N.C. State head coach Tom O’Brien’s final stamp on the UNC-NCSU rivalry was his decision to punt to Gio Bernard in the final seconds last season. Dave Doeren’s decision to fake a punt deep in his own territory had similarly disastrous results on Saturday. The reason the fake punt didn’t work is because UNC knew it was coming.
