UNC basketball recruiting roundup: Vaughn, Exum, Ryan, early signing period, etc.
Posted Nov 11, 2013
It's been a light week from a UNC basketball recruiting perspective, but here are a few quick notes:
UNC assistant Hubert Davis reached out to 2015 4-star small forward Matt Ryan last week. Here's a video showing what the Tar Heels see in the young sharp shooter.
There is an NCAA recruiting "dead period" from November 11-14, meaning that college coaches are prohibited from contacting recruits during this window.
This "dead period" coincides with college basketball's early signing period that takes place from November 13-20, and The Daily Tar Heel has an excellent signing date primer on what's in store from a UNC perspective.
Among UNC's 2014 commits expected to sign early are point guard Joel Berry, small forward Theo Pinson, and small forward Justin Jackson. Berry's definitely excited about his big day Wednesday:

Just received my National Letter of Intent! Can't wait to sign on Wednesday! Can't believe it's already that time of my life!
Despite earlier reports to the contrary, 2014 5-star shooting guard Rashad Vaughn will not sign early and instead will wait until the Spring. There's been little mentioned about UNC's involvement with Vaughn lately, and many analysts feel that it's currently a race between UNLV and Iowa State.
Dante Exum is another 2014 shooting guard on UNC's radar. However, Exum's teammate Jonah Bolden recently said that the Australian 5-star prospect is 50/50 on whether he will attend college or jump straight to the NBA.
Antonio Blakeney, a 2015 shooting guard from Orlando, Florida, has a new highlight video online from the John Lucas Midwest Invitational. Blakeney's stock is rising and he's currently garnering some early attention from Roy Williams and his staff.
Sheridan Hoops has compiled a list of the Top 10 recruits in the 2014 class.
UNC has contacted 2015 5-star shooting guard King McClure (Dallas, TX) but McClure says UNC has not come to see him play and doesn't appear to be heavily recruiting him.
2015 center Chase Jeter already holds an offer from UNC, but recently added an offer from Duke.
And finally, former UNC recruit Trey Lyles, a 5-star power forward from Indianapolis, Indiana, committed to Kentucky, which knocked UNC's 2014 recruiting class from #1 to #2 in the overall class rankings.
