UNC basketball recruiting roundup: Signing Day, Vaughn, Parker, Newman, Stone, etc.
Posted Nov 20, 2013
Here's a quick rundown of UNC's basketball recruiting situation over the past week or so:
Joel Berry, Justin Jackson, and Theo Pinson officially joined the UNC family last Wednesday when they signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the Tar Heels beginning with the 2014 season. Tar Heel Blog has an excellent overview of the newest Tar Heels.
Here are a couple of nice pictures of Pinson and Berry at their respective Signing Day events. And Jackson wrote a great blog entry describing his Signing Day experience and what it meant to him.
Theo Pinson also has some new game footage online taken during the Adidas Nations event. Pinson will join future teammate Justin Jackson on ESPNU this winter in the High School Basketball Showcase. Here's the full schedule. Pinson's and Jackson's game dates are as follows:
Thurs, Dec 5, 9 p.m., ESPNU: Homeschool Christian Youth Assoc. (Jackson) vs. Trinity
Mon, Jan 20, 11:30 a.m., ESPNU: Wesleyan Christian (Pinson) vs. Findlay Prep
2014 5-star shooting guard Rashad Vaughn is still planning to visit UNC, but UNLV and Iowa State appear to be in the lead. Vaughn visited Iowa State over the weekend and came away impressed after watching their upset win over Michigan.
2015 point guard P.J. Dozier holds a UNC scholarship offer and is refocusing on basketball after undergoing knee surgery.
2015 center Diamond Stone also has a UNC offer and a new highlight video to boot.
Chase Jeter is another 2015 center with a UNC offer. He recently discussed his recruitment and a couple of new offers from Duke and Louisville.
2014 Australian 5-star shooting guard Dante Exum is leaning heavily toward entering the NBA Draft rather than attending college. Exum has an offer from UNC, and a teammate was quoted recently saying that Exum was 50/50 on attending college. That doesn't appear to be the case now.
Shooting guard Malik Newman is the top player in the 2015 class and holds a UNC offer. Here's a great video that goes behind the scenes with Newman, who admits he hasn't focused much on his recruitment and says that everyone still has a chance with him.
There's also a report out this week claiming that 2015 shooting guard Antonio Blakeney has a UNC offer. This seems to be new information, so take it for what it's worth. UNC is definitely interested, though.
Finally, Kwe Parker, a 6-2 combo guard from Fayetteville, NC, visited UNC for the Tar Heels' game against Belmont. After that game, I'm more interested in how well Parker shoots free throws than anything.
