For college bowls, playoff era means changing fortunes


Every Monday night from October to December, they had come for a little eating, a little drinking and a lot of laughing. Some of them had been doing it for more years than they could count, back to the days when the duties of a so-called "bowl scout" were less ceremonial and more intimately involved in the machinations of college football's postseason.
