Impressive Debut: Tar Heels' Ackley has been one of top freshmen in nation

A 6-1, 185-pound left-hander, Dustin Ackley has made such a splash with his bat that he is on the list for several national postseason awards and until a couple of weeks ago was the leading hitter in NCAA Division I with a .467 average. His recent “slump” (.357 over his last 10 games) has dropped his average to .441. At the end of last week, he was seventh in the nation and second in the ACC in hitting. (Winston-Salem Journal)
