March Madness Is All About Us

College basketball is not as popular as it used to be. There are several reasons for this, some of them aesthetic (the game has become a bit more plodding offensively), some of them societal (the regular season is too long for the average person to follow along regularly), some of them institutional (the NBA's one-and-done rule, the increasingly transactional nature of the sport). But for the next four days, none of that will matter, because the NCAA tournament will rule everything. It is the one sporting event that unites everyone, because it's about everyone.
