Chizik using 3-step approach to revamp UNC's defense

The first change for UNC's defensive players in the offseason was the arrival of Gene Chizik, the architect of Auburn's national title run in 2010. Chizik and his assistants scrapped the old 4-2-5 scheme for a 4-3 base scheme during spring drills, and he said Wednesday that he was impressed with the amount players remembered when they arrived for fall practice in early August.
