North Carolina displayed an improved defense in the debut for new coordinator Gene Chizik, who has replaced a 4-2-5 base alignment with a 4-3, but a go-ahead touchdown run early in the fourth quarter lifted South Carolina to a 17-13 victory in the Belk College Kickoff at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday night.
