Candace Brown’s layup with 1.7 seconds left lifted Gardner-Webb to a 66-65 upset victory over No. 22 North Carolina in the season opener for both clubs on Friday. Jamie Cherry appeared to have rescued UNC with another late three-pointer to give her team a 65-64 lead with just seven ticks left. However, Brown drove the lane and scored the winning bucket for the Runnin’ Bulldogs. (GoHeels.com)
