Tom Zaliagiris, former UNC star, dies at 50


Tom Zaliagiris, a furniture company executive and a former University of North Carolina basketball standout, died Monday at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The cause of death was a Streptococcus bacteria infection. Zaliagiris was 50. He played guard at UNC from 1974 through 1978. Zaliagiris is remembered for his fierce competitive nature and his broad smile. (Winston-Salem Journal)
