A trip into the home of basketball

Stepping off the airplane in Durham, N.C., last weekend was like being transported into an alternate universe. Beam me up, Scottie Pippen. I was raised on Tom Landry and Earl Campbell. There were two seasons growing up — football season and not football season.Basketball is important, and Texas high schools have produced several high-profile NBA players — Shaquille O'Neal and Larry Johnson come to mind — but spending the weekend in North Carolina was an eye opener.
