Shadow Man

Dean Smith retired after guiding the Tar Heels to the 1997 Final Four. His 879 wins, three north of Adolph Rupp, remain the gold standard. But not for long. Now at Texas Tech, Bobby Knight enters Saturday's game at Arkansas with 877 victories. Neither Smith nor Knight much values coaching records - after passing Rupp, Smith spent much of his news conference acknowledging, by name, every assistant he'd employed in 36 years.
