UNC’s computer science department laid the groundwork for 3-D graphics

Fred Brooks left IBM to found the computer science department at UNC. Today, UNC’s Department of Computer Science is a leader in the 3-D field and a key part of North Carolina’s technological history. Brooks also played a large role in persuading IBM to build a new research facility in North Carolina — a move that is said to have sparked the growth of Research Triangle Park. (UNC.edu)
