Valentin's goal lifts Deacons by Tar Heels

Julian Valentin scored off a deflected free kick in the 19th minute to lead No. 5 Wake Forest past No. 3 North Carolina in an ACC soccer match last night. Pat Phelan's free kick was deflected by a UNC defender and Valentin collected the loose ball and scored from eight yards out at the 18:32 mark. Valentin's left-footed shot went past UNC goalkeeper Justin Hughes and settled into the upper corner of the net. (Winston-Salem Journal)
