Brad Daugherty reflects on NBA draft
Thursday, June 29, 2006
For Brad Daugherty, June 17, 1986, was the day he became a millionaire and got the opportunity to play basketball for a living. Today’s NBA draft will mark the 20th anniversary of Daugherty, the Black Mountain native and Owen High standout, being the overall No. 1 pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers. “Honestly, at the time I didn’t really realize the importance attached to being the top pick,” said Daugherty, 40, who lives in Asheville and oversees his various businesses from an office near Biltmore Village.
