Looking back at UNC’s first NCAA Division I Tournament in Charlotte

UNC entered the 1975 NCAA Basketball Tournament after capturing the ACC Tournament as the second seed with three narrow victories. They defeated No. 7 seed Wake Forest in overtime, 101–100; No. 1 seed Maryland, 87–85; and No. 4 seed NC State, 70–66. The 1975 NCAA Tournament was the first to field thirty-two teams without first round byes.
