Garrett Walston helped New Hanover High exceed expectations, is ready to start UNC career

There were a lot of expectations around Garrett Walston and the New Hanover football program for the 2015 season....The Rivals.com three-star prospect met personal expectations, helping the team exceed what many thought was possible. Walston finished as the Mideastern Conference leader in receiving yards (933) and touchdowns (9) and is the StarNews All-Area offensive player of the year. (Wilmington Star News)

Chazz Surratt named AP’s NC offensive player of year

East Lincoln quarterback Chazz Surratt and Wake Forest defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence are The Associated Press high school football players of the year for North Carolina. Surratt, a senior committed to North Carolina, earned 10 votes as offensive player of the year from 18 high school writers and editors across the state in results released Thursday. UNC WR commit Korey Banks will take official visits to UNC, Alabama, South Carolina

North Carolina commit Korey Banks picked up two SEC offers this week, from Alabama and South Carolina, and now he’ll visit both schools in January. Banks, a 3-star wide receiver from Sandy Creek High School (Tyrone, Ga.), told SEC Country that he has scheduled an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22 and South Carolina on Jan. 29. He will officially visit UNC on Jan. 15. (SEC Country)

Korey Banks “still 100 percent committed” to UNC after picking up Alabama offer

UNC wide receiver commit Korey Banks reported an offer from Alabama Sunday, but the recent news does not have him rethinking his commitment at the moment. Banks, a 3-star prospect from Sandy Creek High School (Tyrone, Ga.), told SEC Country that he didn’t flinch about his standing with the Tar Heels. “I’m still 100 percent committed to North Carolina," Banks said. Top WR recruit Nate Craig-Myers has three top schools, UNC among them, until he insists he doesn't

The trend of top college recruits offering up a short list of their favorite schools as an integral part of the recruiting process is, by its very nature, a bit much. Still, what just unfolded with 5-star wide receiver recruit Nate Craig-Myers went yet further....On Monday, Rivals.com reported that Craig-Myers had limited his future college options to a triumvirate of potential schools: Auburn, Ole Miss and North Carolina. Transfer linebacker J.B. Copeland good to go, admitted to UNC

Junior College transfer J.B. Copeland informed CarolinaBlue on Wednesday that he has been admitted to North Carolina and is set to report on January 8th. The 6-3, 225-pound outside linebacker played one season at New Mexico State before transferring to Navarro Junior College. Copeland was considered a tentative commit until all his paperwork and application went through. (Carolina Blue)

How UNC's football commitments fared at the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas

The Tar Heels had four commits in the game and defensive end Marlon Dunlap made up for a lackluster week of practice with an excellent showing in the game...Linebacker commit Jonathan Smith finished the game with three tackles while running back Jordon Brown averaged more than seven yards per touch. Tight end Garrett Walston finished the game with one catch for seven yards and also did a nice job as a blocker. (Rivals.com)

JuCo LB J.B. Copeland Signs with UNC

JuCo linebacker J.B. Copeland signed a National Letter of Intent with North Carolina Wednesday morning. “I’m really, really excited to finally sign and get that under my belt,” Copeland told IC shortly after sending his NLI to UNC. “I’m really excited to get up there in January. I’m very honored by the opportunity and excited about the situation that I’m going into.” (Inside Carolina)

Dexter Lawrence commits to Clemson

Clemson landed its highest-rated prospect for the 2016 class Monday afternoon in five-star Wake Forest (N.C.) defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Lawrence announced the decision at his high school, picking the Tigers over hometown NC State, Alabama and more top programs. He visited NC State as recently as last weekend.
