Seven Tar Heel Gymnasts Earn All-EAGL Awards
Seven UNC gymnasts were named to the All-EAGL teams after the conclusion of the regular season, the league announced Monday.
Elizabeth Culton, Drew Aldridge, Hallie Thompson, Emery Summey, Kate Greene, Brianna Greenlow, and Hannah Nam were each honored. The first team consists of the top eight ranked gymnasts from the regular season. (

UNC Athletics Welcoming Fans Back To Chapel Hill
We've missed having you at UNC sporting events this season. And we're pleased to tell you that beginning this weekend, we are able to welcome more of you back. Under NC Executive Order 195, outside stadiums will be allowed 30 percent capacity and indoor arenas with at least 5,000 seats will be allowed 15 percent capacity beginning Friday, Feb. 26. (

UNC Student-Athlete Advisory Council creates voter registration initiative
Despite the uncertainty concerning many details of their upcoming sports seasons, UNC athletes are still finding a way to make their mark. This fall, an athlete-led voter initiative is working toward 100 percent voter registration among eligible athletes on UNC's 28 varsity sports teams. The project is organizing a voter registration drive. (

Sean May, the director of basketball operations for men’s basketball, said he learned of the march when
Garrison Brooks texted the team’s group chat. May said he stayed off to the side, but wanted to show support with his presence. “I thought it was super powerful that that many young people get together at the spur of the moment for something that is bigger than them,” May said. (

A Culture Of Character: Derek Galvin Honored With Endowed Scholarship
If anyone knows what it means to be a Tar Heel,
Derek Galvin knows. He competed as a student-athlete in the early 1970's before leading the program for nearly 40 seasons before retiring in June of this year. Thirty-nine to be exact. Galvin cites a familiar face around Chapel Hill as an inspiration for the Carolina Gymnastics culture, the late

UNC Gymnastics Senior Lily Dean Earns Inaugural Galvin Scholarship
The UNC athletic department joined with the Rams Club on Thursday to award senior Lily Dean with the first Derek and Debra Galvin Gymnastics Scholarship. Part of the FORevHER Tar Heels women’s initiative, the endowed scholarship was given to Dean for her team leadership and the way she embodies the Galvins’ character, values and beliefs. (

11 UNC Gymnasts Named WCGA Scholastic All-Americans
Eleven members of the UNC gymnastics team have been named Scholastic All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association. The Tar Heels were one of 53 teams with a 3.5 grade point average or higher. In order to receive the award from the WCGA, student-athletes had to maintain a 3.5 GPA for the 2019-2020 academic season. 'A Saving Grace': UNC Coach Derek Galvin Leaves His Mark on the Gymnastics Community
Derek Galvin is described as a ‘saving grace’ by his former gymnasts, because his ability to see his athletes as people first drastically contrasted many coaches in the elite and Olympic community.
