UNC diver Emily Grund makes waves in return to diving after cancer

2021 was going to be her year. Emily Grund was fresh off her third straight NCAA Championship Appearance, and had competed in the USA Swim and Dive Olympic Trials earlier in the summer. She knew her goals and she knew she’d find a way to accomplish them. What Emily didn’t know was why she was feeling lethargic and getting sick so often. (CBS 17)

UNC Hosting ‘Swim Across America’ Event for Cancer Research on October 8

The UNC swimming and diving teams will host “Swim Across America” at Koury Natatorium on October 8. The event aims to raise $50,000 for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. and the event starts at 9 a.m. All ages and skill levels are invited to participate in a charity swim, to volunteer, or to donate. (Chapelboro.com)

"Live Action" Postponed; UNC Football, Volleyball, Swimming Still On For This Weekend

"Live Action With Carolina Basketball" has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 7. The event originally was scheduled for Friday Sept. 30. With the remnants of Hurricane Ian forecast to move into North Carolina Friday, the likelihood of poor travel conditions for fans attending "Live Action" led UNC Athletics officials to make the decision to postpone by a week. UNC Finishes Sixth In Nation In Final Directors Cup Standings

The national champion women's lacrosse squad was one of eight Tar Heel teams to finish in the top 10 in NCAA Championship play this season to propel North Carolina to a sixth-place finish in the 2021-22 Directors' Cup. This is UNC's 23rd top-10 performance in the 28-year history of the Cup, its fourth time in the top six in the last seven competitions. (GoHeels.com)

How Emily Grund is overcoming cancer and working her way back to the pool

Emily Grund sat in an emergency room at UNC Hospitals, waiting for a doctor to come in and perform a bone marrow biopsy. She was alone, and she was crying. On Sept. 9, 2021, her life had spiraled out of her control. Some of her teammates on the UNC swimming and diving teams had noticed a bruise. Soon, bruises formed all over her body. (Daily Tar Heel)

Diver Emily Grund, Cancer Survivor, To Return To UNC This Fall

UNC senior diver Emily Grund has announced that she is a cancer survivor and that she will return to dive for UNC this fall. Grund was a three-time USA Diving Junior National Champion as well as an NCAA Qualifier in each of her first three seasons at UNC. She was diagnosed with rare cancer, Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL), in September 2021. (Swim Swam)

In 1997, 26 years after the first seven women’s athletics programs – basketball, field hockey, volleyball, fencing, swimming & diving, tennis and gymnastics – began play at UNC, was asked about Carolina being a "basketball school" or "football school." UNC Diver Anton Down-Jenkins Named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

North Carolina senior diver Anton Down-Jenkins, already decorated for his achievements in the pool, received an award for his achievements in the classroom Thursday, being named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. It’s been a year full of honors for Down-Jenkins, who competed at last summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, representing his native New Zealand. (Chapelboro.com)
