A Look Back At The 80th Anniversary Of FDR's Speech In Chapel Hill

This month marks the 80th anniversary of a speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt at UNC, an event considered significant in FDR's political career. Roosevelt's arrival on December 5th, 1938 was the first visit to Chapel Hill by a sitting President in the 20th century. He spoke at Woollen Gym, a venue selected after rain forced the cancellation of an appearance at Kenan Stadium.
