ECU transfer Kurt Benkert wins starting quarterback job at Virginia

Kurt Benkert caught up quickly. The transfer quarterback from ECU has been at Virginia less than four months, but on Wednesday coach Bronco Mendenhall confirmed that Benkert will start the season opener Sept. 3 vs. Richmond. A graduate student with junior eligibility, Benkert beat out last year’s starter, Matt Johns, and backup Connor Brewer.
