Pat Summitt and Sylvia Hatchell have coached against each other just four times in their college coaching careers. Hatchell is 0-4. The two have been friends for more than 30 years and began their coaching years together. Summitt recommended Hatchell to Carolina in 1986 when the Tar Heels had a vacancy. The two also worked together, along with N.C. State coach Kay Yow, on various U.S. basketball teams.
