Kayla McPherson retires as basketball player after 6 surgeries, will be student assistant for UNC

Kayla McPherson came to UNC as a 4-star point guard full of star power, but after four years in Chapel Hill defined by promise and perseverance as she battled injuries and endured six surgeries, she announced Tuesday that she is retiring as a player. McPherson will be on the sidelines this season as a student assistant, a role she also held last season.
