Indians take North Carolina pitcher Alex White with first round pick in amateur draft
Posted Jun 9, 2009
In a pitcher-heavy draft, the Indians selected University of North Carolina right-hander Alex White 15th overall tonight. White was projected to go earlier, but struggled recently. Cleveland had not used its first pick on a pitcher since 2004 (Jeremy Sowers). It went with outfielder Trevor Crowe in 2005, infielder Beau Mills in 2007 and infielder Lonnie Chisenhall last year.
