“Good pitching beats good hitting.” This might be the second hoariest of baseball clichés, right after “it’s a game of inches.” But clichés become clichés for a reason. The North Carolina staff turned East Carolina’s potent bats into helpless little kittens last week. The Pirates scored four times in two games and only one run when it really mattered.
