UNC beats Gamecocks, 5-4; Will face NC State in Omaha

The Tar Heels advanced to the College World Series Tuesday with a 5-4 win over border-state rival South Carolina at Boshamer Stadium. UNC will next face N.C. State in Omaha Sunday at 3 p.m., about three weeks after the teams played for 18 innings in the ACC Tournament. The Tar Heels won that meeting 2-1 in what was the longest game in program history.
